QUESTION: The Balanced Scorecard is a strategic planning and management system that is used extensively in business and industry, government, and non-profit organizations worldwide to align business activities to the vision and strategy of the organization, improve internal and external communications, and monitor organization performance against strategic goals. The Balanced Scorecard Institute 2016. REQUIRED: Critically evaluate how the Balanced Scorecard can be used as a tool for senior management to assess the performance of an organisation. Your answer must be supported by extensive reference to relevant literature and logical argument. All reference to literature must be referenced in Harvard Style. The validity and reliability of all literature must be considered except where its source is a peer-reviewed journal. The exploration and investigation of the wider aspects of prior research will help you discuss the principles of the Balanced Scorecard in more depth. It is not expected that you specifically produce a Balanced Scorecard for a real or fictitious organisation. The work may be produced individually or in pairs. NB: if submitted as a pair, each will receive the same overall mark. All students must submit their work, where work is done in a pair BOTH students must EACH submit a copy of the work, clearly identifying BOTH authors. All submitted work must be the original work of either the individual or pair. Your work must be submitted via Turnitin. Below is some guidance you may find useful: Guidance on referencing Correct referencing is an academic skill that you will be assessed on. Correct referencing demonstrates that you have read appropriately on the subject, shows that you are acknowledging the sources you have used (that you are not trying to cheat) and provide information on useful sources of information to your reader. Doing it correctly demonstrates professionalism. Doing it incorrectly will lead to reduced marks and possibly more serious action. I do see cases where the student has clearly deliberately attempted to cheat. However, most cases I see are where students have either referenced poorly or not bothered with referencing at all. Sometimes good work often fails in these circumstances. If you have any concerns about your referencing ask for help before submitting. Points to note: 1. The source given in Turnitin may not be the source you used. Reference where you got the material. 2. If it is a quote make sure you have used quotation marks and give the page number from the source in your reference too. 3. If you have rewritten somebodys words (this is called paraphrasing) you must reference the source. You may see this in your Turnitin report as bits of matching text in a paragraph. 4. If the match given is to another student, you have probably both used material from a textbook. Make sure you have referenced the material correctly to the textbook you have used. 5. If you have used material from a source and the Turnitin check does not show it you still must reference it. Thousands of new sources are added to Turnitin every day.
